Director, Agriculture and Fisheries Program
Center for Environmental Leadership in Business

Education
University of Montana: B.A., Geography
University of Minnesota, Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs: M.A.

Justin Ward directs the Agriculture and Fisheries Program with the Center for Environmental Leadership in Business. The program engages leading companies and other stakeholders to develop and promote practices that are both economically feasible and environmentally sound. These practices succeeded in curtailing the conversion of tropical forests and other biologically rich ecosystems for agricultural uses, protecting marine and freshwater biodiversity, reducing pollution from food production and supporting the expansion and maintenance of protected areas and biodiversity corridors.

Prior to joining CI, Ward was a Senior Policy Specialist with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). During more than 17 years with NRDC, he directed the organization's activities on farm policy, international trade and global forest conservation.

In 1996, Ward was elected to a 3-year term on the international board of directors of the Forest Stewardship Council, and he currently serves on the board of the Consumer's Choice Council. Ward is the author of numerous publications.
