The College of William and Mary: B.A., Government, Environmental Studies

As Manager for the Energy & Mining program, Marielle Canter Weikel facilitates relationships between the energy and mining sectors and Conservation International (CI) around the world, contributing to development of corporate engagement strategies for CI programs in key regions. She also manages the Energy and Biodiversity Initiative (EBI), a global-level initiative that integrates biodiversity conservation into oil and gas development. Additionally, Marielle also leads development of the Initial Biodiversity Assessment and Planning (IBAP) methodology, a tool for working with companies to assess the biodiversity in an area, review existing and potential risks to biodiversity and opportunities to conserve it, and recommend conservation strategies.

Prior to joining CI, Marielle worked with a consulting firm for clients on environmental, health and safety issues. During her undergraduate coursework, she conducted policy research on environmental scarcity and conflict in the Lake Victoria region of East Africa and completed an environmental policy semester through Columbia University at the Biosphere 2 Center in Arizona.
