Business Practices Manager for CI’s Center for Environmental Leadership in Business (CELB), Rebecca joined Conservation International in January 2007 to provide coordination and project management support on key tourism accounts in Mexico, Belize, Ecuador, and Madagascar with the aim to promote good environmental practices within the travel industry and at the destination level in areas of high biological diversity.

Rebecca has played an integral role in the implementation of the Mesoamerican Reef Tourism Initiative (MARTI) as well as the Ocean Conservation & Tourism Alliance, CI’s partnership with the cruise tourism industry, and the development of environmental leadership strategies for major travel companies aiming to reduce their environmental impact and make a significant contribution to conservation.

She is currently working more broadly to identify best practices and tools for business engagement across industries including tourism, agriculture, energy, mining, forestry, finance, entertainment, retail, and other sectors. Prior to coming to CI, Rebecca worked for two years in Ecuador on ecotourism and rainforest conservation in the Amazon.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from The American University in Washington, D.C. and also received her Master’s degree in International Peace and Conflict Resolution with a concentration on Sustainable Development and the Environment. She comes to CELB with five years of experience in the non-profit and government sectors focused primarily in the Amazon basin. Rebecca is originally from Vermont and has also lived in Ecuador, Italy, and Brazil.

Rebecca comes to CELB with several years of experience working in ecotourism and other community development initiatives, mostly in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest and other parts of Latin America. Rebecca is originally from Vermont and has lived abroad in Ecuador, Italy, and Brazil.
