Our partnership with Botanical Society of South Africa focuses on engaging the mining industry for the protection of critical ecosystems through regional planning in South Africa.
- The Botanical Society of South Africa is involved in the Succulent Karoo Ecosystem Programme (SKEP). SKEP is a multistakeholder, binational initiative that has developed a twenty-year strategy for biodiversity conservation and land use in the Succulent Karoo biodiversity hotspot. SKEP is funded by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF).
- BOTSOC is the project leader for the Bushmanland Conservation Initiative (BCI), a new project seeking to establish a multi-owned protected area network to conserve biodiversity within Bushmanland, in the Northern Cape Province, South Africa as well as to generate local economic development activities. The BCI partners include SKEP, local and provincial government, local NGOs and Anglo American. The BCI is funded by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) and technical support on mining-related issues is provided by CELB.
